Copper rod · verified sellers
Copper rod suppliers
Copper rod suppliers are rod mills that cast and roll cathode into coils, and the traders who sell their output. A real supplier can name the mill, give a mill test certificate with conductivity and oxygen for each lot and accept inspection. On Copper Supply every member passes an ID check before they can message you, and you can post a free buying requirement so sellers come to you.

Post it freeWhat a real rod supplier looks like
Rod is made in a rod mill from Grade A cathode, by continuous casting and rolling or by upcasting. A real supplier names the mill, can tell you the process, and supplies a mill test certificate for every lot.
Because rod is made from cathode, its price is above the LME, never far below it. A rod offer well under the LME is the clearest sign of a scam.
Documents to ask for
- A dated SCO or FCO naming the mill, the grade (ETP or oxygen-free) and the standard, such as ASTM B49 or EN 1977
- Mill test certificate for each lot: copper content, oxygen, conductivity, elongation and surface
- Packing list with coil numbers and weights
- Certificate of origin and export licence
- Independent inspection of weight, coil condition and samples, by SGS, Bureau Veritas or similar
How to verify a rod supplier
- Check that the named mill exists and makes the size and grade on offer.
- Check the seller in its official registry and its link to the mill.
- Test samples at an independent lab for conductivity and oxygen. Recycled or poorly made rod often fails on conductivity.
- Inspect coils before loading: surface oxidation, damage and weight.
- Run the certificates through the document check. The first check is free.
Red flags
- Rod priced below the LME, or far below the cathode price
- A mill test certificate with no mill name, or with round numbers for every test
- Rod said to be "made from cathode" by a seller who cannot name the mill
- Full payment before loading
- Refusal of inspection
Search names and numbers in the scam search.

Typical copper rod specification
- Size
- 8 mm diameter is standard; other sizes on request
- ETP rod
- Cu-ETP (CW004A / C11000), Cu typically 99.90% minimum, oxygen typically about 200 to 400 ppm
- Oxygen-free rod
- Cu-OF (CW008A / C10200), oxygen 10 ppm or less, often made by upcasting
- Conductivity
- Minimum 100% IACS (about 58 MS/m); good rod often tests higher
- Standards
- ASTM B49, EN 1977, or the buyer's specification
- Packing
- Coils of about 2 to 5 MT on pallets, wrapped against moisture
- Made from
- Grade A cathode, by continuous casting and rolling or by upcasting

Questions people ask
What is copper rod?
Copper rod, also called wire rod or drawing stock, is copper cast and rolled from cathode into long coils, usually 8 mm thick. Wire and cable makers draw it into finer wire.
How is copper rod priced?
As the LME price plus a premium in US$ per tonne. The premium covers the cathode premium, the cost of making rod, packing and freight. Oxygen-free rod usually costs more than ETP rod.
What is the difference between ETP and oxygen-free copper rod?
ETP (electrolytic tough pitch) rod contains a small, controlled amount of oxygen and is used for most wire and cable. Oxygen-free rod has 10 ppm oxygen or less and is used where higher purity or better performance in welding or fine drawing is needed.
Who buys copper rod?
Cable makers, wire drawers, magnet wire and transformer makers, and traders. Many cable makers in Africa, the Middle East and South Asia import rod because they have no rod mill of their own.
What conductivity should copper rod have?
Standard ETP rod must reach at least 100% IACS, about 58 MS/m, under standards such as ASTM B49. Good rod often tests a little higher. Test samples at an independent lab before you accept a lot.
Is copper rod below the LME price real?
No. Rod is made from cathode, so it costs the LME price plus a premium. An offer below the LME is either not rod, not the grade claimed, or not real.
