Expert document review

Have the seller's papers checked by hand, before you pay

Forged SGS reports, borrowed certificates of origin and SKRs from banks that hold no metal are how most copper scams get paid. Send us the documents for one shipment and a specialist on our compliance team goes through every page.

How it works

Three steps, one price

  1. 1

    Upload the seller's documents

Up to 12 files for one shipment: invoice, SGS or assay report, certificate of origin, export permit, bill of lading, SKR, contract. Phone photos are fine if every page is readable.

  2. 2

    A specialist reads every page

Not a machine. Each document is checked against the others and against what the issuing lab, authority or bank actually issues.

  3. 3

You get your files back, marked up

The problems marked on your own files, plus a written opinion and a clear verdict, usually within 2 working days.

What reviews catch

What our reviewers find most often

  • Weights, lots, seals or truck numbers that differ from one document to the next
  • An assay or SGS report whose format, reference or signatory doesn't match what that lab issues
  • A certificate of origin or export permit for a company that isn't the seller
  • An SKR, bank letter or warehouse receipt from an institution that doesn't hold metal, or doesn't exist
  • A contract (SPA, FCO, SCO) that puts your money at risk before the goods are under your control

Every review ends with one of four verdicts

No issues found
Nothing in the documents suggests a problem. You still confirm key points with the issuer.
Points to check
Things to clear up with the seller or the issuer before any money moves.
Serious concerns
Problems typical of forged or altered documents. Don't pay until they're resolved.
Couldn't be checked
Unreadable, incomplete or outside what we cover. Refunded in full.

An expert review is an indicative opinion on the documents as you sent them. It isn't a guarantee that a document is genuine, that the goods exist, or that a trade is safe, and it isn't legal advice. Always confirm key points with the issuer (the lab, the authority or the bank) before you pay.

Questions

Questions people ask

What is an expert document review?

A specialist on the Copper Supply compliance team reads the documents for one copper shipment by hand, checks them against each other and against what the issuers actually produce, and sends your files back with the problems marked, plus a written opinion. It costs US$149 per shipment and usually takes 2 working days.

Which documents can you review?

Commercial and proforma invoices, packing lists, bills of lading and truck consignment notes, certificates of origin, assay and inspection reports (SGS, Alex Stewart and others), mill certificates, export permits, customs declarations (EX-1, T-1), warehouse receipts and SKRs, contracts (SPA, FCO, SCO, LOI), company registrations, mining licences and bank letters.

Can you tell me whether a document is genuine?

We give an expert, indicative opinion on the documents as you sent them. We don't authenticate documents, and we always tell you which points to confirm directly with the issuer (the lab, the authority or the bank) before you pay.

How is this different from the free pre-check?

The free pre-check at copper.supply/check is automatic: it reads one document and lists the red flags in about a minute. An expert review is a person reading the whole set for one shipment, cross-checking every document against the others.

What if the documents can't be checked?

If they're unreadable, incomplete or outside what we cover, we tell you why and refund you in full.

Who sees my documents?

Only you and the reviewer assigned to your request. The seller is never contacted and never told you asked. Files are stored privately and only opened through short-lived links.

Can someone also go and look at the cargo?

Yes, in the DRC copper belt. A field check sends our partner in Lubumbashi to the company or the warehouse, yard or site, with GPS-stamped photos and a written report. See copper.supply/drc-field-checks.
